The mechanical properties of the fibre/matrix interface have a large influence on the initiation of damage in composites materials for wind turbine blades. Microscale aspects of processing will be modelled. New fibre coatings will be developed. Micromechanical modelling will be used for studying the effect of microscale imperfections and plasticity on the strength and fatigue life.
